Federal post-quantum cryptography readiness examined

Numerous federal agencies, including the Departments of Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and Commerce, reported that they were able to keep up with post-quantum cryptography requirements imposed by the Office of Management and Budget amid the imminent threat of quantum cyberattacks, according to FedScoop. However, no updates have been issued by the departments of Education and Agriculture, as well as the USAID even though agencies have been ordered by the OMB to submit an inventory of systems that may require post-quantum cryptography transition by May 4. "The consequences associated with the Snowden leaks or the recent Discord leaks would pale in comparison to the consequences associated with agencies' failure to comply with the November 2022 Memo on Migrating to Post-Quantum Cryptography. [It's] important to begin the migration to post-quantum cryptography now because the process could take a long time and entails a lot of challenges," said Sam Howell, a research assistant at the Center for a New American Securitys Technology and National Security Program.
