Nexus device security leads Android ecosystem

Google's Nexus phones unsurprisingly lead the pack in the Android ecosystem when it comes to security, with 2 out of 3 Nexus devices being fully patched, as of June 30, compared to just 18 percent of other Android phones, according to recent study.

Duo Labs researchers said the devices ship with a “purer flavor of Android” and are consistently in the first wave of Android devices to receive operating system updates with 99 percent of Nexus phones being able to receive monthly security updates compared to 86 percent of other Android phones, according to a July 13 blog post.

As a result, 87 percent of Nexus devices are running the latest version of Android compared to just 31 percent of other Android phones.

Credit is also due to device users who researchers said deserve a lot of credit for promptly applying security patches and upgrading their operating systems.
