Infoblox, a managed DNS services provider acquired privately-owned threat intelligence firm IID for $45 million. The Tacoma, Washington-based target company, founded in 1997, was previously known as Internet Identity. IID raised $8 million from Bessemer Venture Partners in its Series A in November 2013.

The publicly listed buyer manages DNS, DHCP, and IP addresses (DDI), and alerts clients to suspicious activity. The acquisition provides Infoblox with a threat research team and provide greater context to DDI threats. Morgan Stanley veteran Sean Tierney joined IID in November lead the firm's threat intelligence team.

In July, the two companies partnered to create the DNS Threat Index, an international index of malware domain registrations.

Infoblox previously acquired Internet Associates in ‎February 2014, and purchased the network systems management company Netcordia for an undisclosed sum in May 2010.
