An Iranian national pleaded guilty in Vermont to charges of unauthorized access to computers and wire fraud in relation to an October 2012 hack of defense contractor Arrow Tech Associates, Inc.
Nima Golestaneh provided servers in other countries to allow a co-conspirator to break into the Vermont-based engineering consultancy and software firm as well as other companies and steal information. Authorities arrested Golestaneh in Turkey in November 2013 and he was extradited to the U.S. Feb. 12.
“This case proves the power of close cooperation among victims, law enforcement and the international community,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P. Carlin said in a release. “With continued partnerships like these, cyber crimes will not go unanswered. At the National Security Division, we will continue to follow the facts and evidence wherever they lead to ensure there are no safe havens for hackers.”
