Survey: Americans come in second for cyber banking safety

When it comes to online banking, Americans are the second most security focused nation behind Great Britain, according to an ESET survey.

The study was conducted on the U.S., the U.K., Germany and Russia and found that fewer than 74 percent of U.S. respondents answered in the affirmative when asked if they have security software installed on the device they normally use for online banking. In comparison, just over 77 percent of those from the U.K. and nearly 69 percent and 65 percent of German and Russian respondents, respectively, claimed to have security software installed.

ESET also queried respondents about different ways they use online banking such as paying bills and checking balances, and personal financial management. The survey found nearly 78 percent of Brits and nearly 73 percent of Americans primarily used online banking services to check the status of their accounts while the majority of Russians and Germans used the services to pay bills.
