Potential breach brews at Costa Coffee Club

It's not just caffeine that may make Costa Coffee Club customers eschew coffee for another beverage - the coffee company has warned its customers that a possible data breach may have put their information at risk and has reset passwords for all the club accounts.

Costa Coffee also said it will use a “new format” for passwords.

A company spokesperson, in a statement to The Register, confirmed that “contact information from a very small number of loyalty card holders (around 0.02 per cent) was accessed.” The company, which does ask club members to provide information such as names, birthdays, phone numbers, email addresses and physical addresses, does “not hold any financial data on the Costa loyalty card system,” the statement said. “We immediately contacted the customers affected and we are continuing to remain vigilant."
