Syrian Electronic Army compromises more Microsoft accounts

On Saturday, roughly one week after compromising accounts belonging to Skype, the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) took claim for compromising the official blog of Microsoft, as well as one of its Twitter accounts – @MSFTnews.

The pro-Assad hacktivists first posted on the @MSFTnews Twitter account at around 2:30 p.m., Eastern Time. Two practically identical follow-up posts, one a retweet, stated, “Don't use Microsoft emails (hotmail, outlook), They are monitoring your accounts and selling the data to the governments.”

The SEA also modified stories on the official Microsoft blog to let visitors know the group had been there. All modifications were removed by Saturday evening.

The group – which has gained prominence for compromising accounts through social engineering – was reported as having said that the recent SEA attacks against Microsoft are misdirection for something greater.
