FBI: Hack-and-leak operations being conducted by Iranian cyber group

The FBI has warned that Iranian cyber group Emennet Pasargad, previously known as Net Peygard Samavat and Eeleyanet Gostar, may target U.S. organizations in hack-and-leak attacks, which it has conducted against Israeli organizations, according to SecurityWeek. While Israeli organizations have primarily been targeted by Emennet Pasargad's false-flag hack-and-leak campaigns, the cyber group has also employed similar tactics during the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, noted the FBI. "These hack-and-leak campaigns involve a combination of hacking/theft of data and information operations that impact victims via financial losses and reputational damage," the alert said. The FBI also said that one U.S. organization has been impacted by Emennet early this year, with the group exposing personally identifiable information exfiltrated during the attack. "Although Emennet personas may exaggerate their level of access to a victim network or the volume of victim data stolen, the FBI judges that each of these campaigns likely start with some level of cyber intrusion," added the alert.
