Hacker leaks Norfolk Admirals customer data

A hacker Wednesday posted online the personal information of roughly 250 Norfolk Admirals hockey team customers.

The data dump included 4,476 email accounts, addresses, names, and credit card types, but the hockey team's Vice President Joe Gregory told The Virginian-Pilot the number affected was was only about 250 after eliminating duplicates and spam addresses.

Using the now defunct Twitter handle “@gift2death,” the hacker, who reportedly referred to himself as ‘grey hat,' took credit for the attack and claimed to have previously warned the Admirals about their lax online security. Gregory said he was not aware of any such warning. “Now, YOU have to take responsibility for what you can NOT protect,” the hacker reportedly said in an interview conducted via Twitter with the Virginia publication.

The attacker also provided what he claimed to be the hockey team's Twitter account password, which he said he did not access.
