Iran has fired back at the U.S. for indicting seven Iranian citizens on hacking charges, including accessing the controls of a dam in New York, with officials saying there is no evidence to back up the claim.
Not only does the U.S. have no hard evidence, but that American computer attacks on Iran's nuclear program placed its citizens at risk, said Hossein Jaberi Ansari, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, according to Bloomberg News.
“Iran has never had dangerous actions in cyberspace on its agenda nor has it ever supported such actions,” Jaberi Ansari said.
The seven Iranians face charges relating to launching distributed denial-of-service attacks between 2011 and 2013 against 46 financial institutions that knocked banking systems offline. One man also was charged with compromising the control system of the 20-foot-tall Bowman Avenue Dam, near Rye Brook, N.Y., in August and September 2013.
