U.S. Air Force adds extra pay for cyberspace specialists

The U.S. Air Force has added cyber warfare operations as a job position eligible for special duty pay.

Airman with the military occupation specialty 1B4X1, cyberspace defense operations, can receive an extra $150 per month if they have been on the job for between six months to one year or $225 per month for more than one year, according to an article in the Air Force Times.

“We use this program to ensure the Air Force is attracting the right people for these high-demand specialties and appropriately compensate them based on the complexity, difficulty and degree of responsibility required of their duties,” said Brig. Gen. Brian Kelly, director of military force management policy.

The U.S. Department of Defense has been bolstering its cyber capabilities through the implementation of several new programs, including utilize private sector tactics to battle cyberattacks and developing cyber troops for battlefield deployment.
