A Virginia teenager was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison and having his internet activity monitored for the rest of his life for conspiring with the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Ali Shukri Amin, 17, of Manasas, Va., was sentenced Aug. 28 in the Eastern District of Virginia by U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Amin pleaded guilty on June 11, 2015, for using Twitter to provide advice and encouragement to ISIL and its supporters. In addition, he provided instructions to ISIL on how to use the digital currency bitcoin to help hide funding going to ISIL, he admitted to facilitating travel to Syria for ISIL supporters, specifically Amin said he helped an 18-year-old Prince William County resident travel to Syria in January 2015.
