Miami teen charged with hacking school website, altering grades

A Miami teenager was arrested after reportedly confessing to his high school principal that he had hacked into the school website and altered students' grades, according to WFOR-TV, the Miami ABC affiliate.

Jose Bautista, 18, faces multiple charges, including intellectual property offense and offense against computer users. He is accused of changing his grades and those of four other students at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School. The school's principal allegedly extracted a written confession from Bautista then turned him over to authorities.

The Miami-Dade School District issued a statement to WFOR-TV, saying, "The school district takes incidents like this very seriously. In addition to the arrest and ongoing criminal investigation, the Code of Student Conduct provides for corrective strategies…including recommendation for expulsion."

Bautista, currently out on a $20,000 bond, is one of several teens recently arrested for similar cyber crimes.
