Yahoo's CISO Alex Stamos revealed a number of measures the company would take to strengthen data security through encryption, in the midst of government snooping revelations.

On Wednesday, Stamos took to the company's Tumblr blog to announce that all traffic sent between Yahoo's data centers would be fully encrypted. The measure was implemented on Monday.

In addition, the company also plans to introduce a new, encrypted version of Yahoo Messenger in coming months for users, Stamos said.

“Our goal is to encrypt our entire platform for all users at all times, by default,” Stamos wrote.

The announcement comes after Yahoo set SSL encryption by default in Yahoo Mail this January to further protect customers' communications.
