Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County acknowledge possible breach

Career and Technology Education Centers (C-TEC) of Licking County in Newark, Ohio suffered a possible data breach earlier this year that could have exposed individuals' names and Social Security numbers, according to local reports [1, 2].

Citing a C-TEC spokesperson as a source, reports state that the technical training school determined on May 25 that an unauthorized person may have had access to a private file for several minutes. The educational institution, which offers classes for both high-school students and adults, launched an investigation after first noticing the problem on Apr. 19.

C-TEC reportedly offered a year of credit monitoring to affected individuals -- although it is not clear if the potential victims are students or staff members.

"The confidentiality, privacy, and security of the information in our care is one of our highest priorities," said C-TEC PR and marketing coordinator Brian Wilfong, the Newark Advocate reports. "C-TEC regrets the inconvenience that this event caused to impacted individuals and appreciates our community's support."
