Hackers target Asian mobile porn enthusiasts with malware

Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese Android users are being hit with an abundance of porn-themed malware, according to a new Trend Micro report.

Trend Micro said the malware represents itself as a porn video website and “all lead to various malicious apps being downloaded. The use of adult-themed content echoes the one-click billing fraud app we've covered a few years back.”

Three types of malware apps have been discovered, including AndroidOS_Souying.HRX. This app has integrated exploit code which can target various unsecure kernel driver vulnerabilities. The company noted that this malware connects to a URL whose domain is owned by an app promotion company in Hangzhou, China, known to distribute apps to users via pornographic websites.

The malicious apps primary purpose is to down more malware. However, some are used for fraudulent purposes, Trend Micro said.
