HP bolsters encryption business with Voltage Security acquisition

HP has acquired Voltage Security, a data security provider known for its encryption and tokenization technology.

Announced Monday, the move will help bolster HP's offerings in payment security, encryption, tokenization and enterprise key management, as the company plans to integrate Voltage's trademark technology to HP Atalla, its encryption business, according to a company blog post by Art Gilliland, general manager of enterprise security products at HP.

The acquisition is especially significant to those enterprises that utilize financial payment systems, in addition to providing better protection for enterprises whose sensitive data flows into Hadoop for analytics, according to a Voltage Security blog post.

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is anticipated to close in the first half of fiscal 2015.
