Microsoft replaces buggy PowerPoint 2013 update

Microsoft has replaced a PowerPoint 2013 update after users complained about the patch causing issues, such as the program failing to launch.

On Tuesday, the tech giant announced that the new update, KB2956149, could be downloaded through Microsoft Update. The company pulled the original PowerPoint patch, KB2920732, on Friday, just days after it was released on Patch Tuesday. Reported issues specifically affected users of PowerPoint 2013 on Windows RT devices.

According to a Microsoft support page, the new patch brings usability and performance improvements to PowerPoint 2013, such as fixing challenges that arise when users try to change the source of a video inserted in a presentation after tinkering with the “Break Link” feature. KB2956149 also rectified issues that users ran into when inserting a photo taken on a smartphone, digital camera or tablet, into PowerPoint 2013, Word or Excel.
