Microsoft has made a few security additions to its Edge browser and other applications as part of the company’s branding switch from Office 365 to Microsoft 365 that will take place on April 21.
The version of Edge rolling out with Microsoft 365 will contain a new feature called Password Monitor. To work the user must opt in. Once this is accomplished it will notify the device owner if the various login credentials that have been saved to Edge’s password autofill have been detected on the dark web. A notification will be immediately sent to make changes if a match is found there with any saved username or password.
Password Monitor joins inPrivate mode, which automatically deletes browsing history, site data and cookies when a browsing session is completed. Edge also already contains tracking prevention which stops websites from being able to follow you from site to site by blocking third-part trackers. It has three settings, basic, balanced and strict that will tell Edge which trackers to block.
Microsoft also mentioned the upcoming addition of the Family Safety app in Microsoft 365, but gave out no functionality details at this time.
