Laptops stolen from TSA contractor contain personal information of 3,930

Two laptops were stolen from a third-party contractor working with the Transportation Security Administration. The computers contain the personal information of 3,930 people, including commercial drivers who transport hazardous material.

What types of personal information?
Names, addresses, birth dates, commercial driver’s license numbers and some Social Security numbers.

What was the response? Members of Congress were notified in an Oct. 12 letter from the TSA.

Details: The personal information was deleted from the laptops, but an investigation found that someone with data recovery skills could recover it.

The main contractor for the TSA’s Hazardous Materials Endorsement Threat Assessment program is LexisNexis.
