Technology integrator Morse has upgraded its European antivirus systems by signing up to a managed service which routes all its external web traffic through a third party security provider.
The enhanced security infrastructure, which is being rolled out across two Morse offices in the UK and two in Germany, is designed to improve the level of protection for 1000 of the company's European staff.
The company said the upgrade had been prompted by rapidly increasing incidents of web-born Trojans and worms.
Chris Mitchell, IT director, Morse commented, "Virus writers have switched from attack by mail to attack from the web, which means that any employee surfing the web could unwittingly bring a virus into the enterprise and seriously compromise corporate security."
"All companies should be aware of this risk, and have suitable safeguards in place."
The internet-based managed service, provided by security firm ScanSafe, scans and filters Morse's external web traffic at ScanSafe's processing centre where viruses are blocked before they are able to make it near user desktops.
According to Morse, the real-time antivirus security protection has been achieved with near zero performance degradation for the access of web pages.
Additionally, ScanSafe's proprietary Outbreak Intelligence monitoring software uses statistical analysis in a bid to identify web virus outbreaks from unusual activity patterns. Traffic flagged in this way as suspicious is then blocked out of Morse's systems.
