Outdoor retailer exposes customer info

Where did the breach take place? Greensburg, Pa.

What happened? Gander Mountain, a retail chain for hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor lifestyle products, said a computer was either lost or stolen. The machine contained the credit card information for anyone who has shopped at the Greensburg outlet from July 2002 to June 2007.

How many victims? 112,000 customers.

What kind of personal information? The 10,000 records contained names, credit card numbers and expiration dates.

What was the response? The company sent 5,750 letters to those customers with known addresses.

Details: The company does not suspect any of the information has been used to conduct fraud or that the equipment was stolen for its data.
