President Donald Trump’s first federal budget blueprint intends to allocate $1.5 billion for the Department of Homeland Security to bolster its cybersecurity efforts surrounding federal networks and critical infrastructure.
The budget request signals a 6.8 percent increase in funding for the DHS, while cutting spending for other agencies and departments, according to The Hill.
Released publicly on Thursday, March 15, the blueprint was drafted by the Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, who told reporters that the budget would allow for the agency to “share more cybersecurity incident information with other federal agencies and the private sector.”
“Through this bold agenda, we will improve the effectiveness, efficiency, cybersecurity, and accountability of the Federal Government and make government work again,” the budget document reads.
