Free cybersecurity tools coming online to protect WFH staffers

Several cybersecurity firms are going the extra mile to help customers set up a safe environment for their telecommuting workforce.

The new reality of having the majority of a businesses workforce working from home has opened a Pandora’ Box or cybersecurity issues for these organizations. A recent poll of UK companies by the private equity firm Lenore International found 33 percent lack the infrastructure needed to enable a long-term work from home policy.

To help companies now struggling to protect their assets a growing number of cybersecurity firms are offering free tools to protect those working from home.

Vectra has made its SaaS-based program that delivers daily reports on a company's Office 365 security posture as well as the support of Vectra Consulting Analysts. The on-board process takes 15 minutes, to determine if a system has compromised Office 365 accounts and guard against the attacks. The free offering is available through May 31, 2020.

ReversingLabs has created an Emergency Assistance Package for industries heavily affected by coronavirus: Healthcare, air and travel, insurance, oil and gas and automotive.
The package offers six months of access to ReversingLabs Threat Analysis and Threat Hunting Program Consulting Services, Automated Threat Intelligence and Hunting Services, and ReversingLabs TitaniumCloud.

Qualys is offering a 60-day cloud-based remote endpoint protection solution at no charge to its customers for 60 days that allows IT and security teams to protect the computers of remote employees. The service will initially rollout only to current Qualys customers with others added at a later date.

The service uses Qualys’ Cloud Agent to complete an up-to-date inventory of all remote endpoint hardware and the applications they are running, gain a real-time view of all critical vulnerabilities impacting the operating system and applications posing a risk to these devices, remotely patch systems within hours from the cloud without using the limited bandwidth available on VPN gateways and realize visibility in device hygiene by tracking common misconfigurations that leave the endpoints exposed to exploits.

VMWare Carbon Black has eliminated customer endpoint limits during the 90-day program period beginning on March 20, 2020 and ending on June 20, 2020. The program covers active VMware Carbon Black customers who are currently using VMware Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Standard, VMware Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Advanced, VMware Carbon Black Cloud Endpoint Enterprise, VMware Carbon Black Cloud Audit and Remediation, and VMware Carbon Black Cloud Enterprise EDR, as well as the on-premise versions of VMware Carbon Black On-Premise EDR and VMware Carbon Black App Control.

“We want all of our customers to adapt to this new working model as quickly as possible. You shouldn’t have to worry about the partnerships and solutions you already have in place,” the company said.

NETSCOUT announced the public availability of its Cyber Threat Horizon, a free threat intelligence portal that offers network and security operators visibility into Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in real-time.

“Now more than ever, critical infrastructure such as internet circuits, routers, VPN gateways, and firewalls must remain available to ensure remote access to internal resources and services. DDoS attacks pose a significant threat to the availability of this critical infrastructure and services,” the company said.

TrapX is offering a free managed cybersecurity service for 60 days using its DeceptionGrid technology. It includes the following components:

  1. TSOC: TrapX hosts the Security Operations Console for management and reporting in the DeceptionGrid Cloud environment. Company information is isolated and TrapX will notify an organization if malicious activity is discovered.
  2. Appliance: This is a portable virtual image installed within an environment to monitor for cyberrisks. It sits adjacent to critical systems, including any remote access subnets. If there is a trunk port on a company’s switch, TrapX can deploy up to 512 traps across 200 networks including multiple VLANs with a single image.

SentinelOne has made its SentinelOne Core available free of charge, enabling enterprises to secure remote work as the world combats COVID-19. SentinelOne is free through May 16, 2020.
