Vincent Weafer (left), a longtime researcher at Symantec, has joined McAfee as senior vice president of engineering. At McAfee Labs, Weafer will be tasked with delivering security research and real-time global threat intelligence, used in McAfee's portfolio of security products. Weafer previously spent 16 years at Symantec, where he headed threat analysis and malware research.Dell Services and Symantec have partnered to embed Symantec's email security platform as part of Dell Services' software-as-a-service (SaaS) email management services portfolio. Currently, Dell Services offers email continuity and archiving solutions to Symantec customers and channel partners.
AVG Technologies, provider of anti-virus solutions, has acquired Israel's DroidSecurity, a cloud-based maker of mobile security technology, focused on smartphones, tablets and other devices that run on Google's Android operating system. The deal enables AVG to extend its solutions to the mobile space.
Verizon has launched its VERIS community website, designed to collect and share information about security incidents globally. Organizations can anonymously share their data through an online application, and participants will receive a report that analyzes the incidents and compares them to similar ones being reported. The site also contains access to white papers and other content.
IBM has acquired Netezza to expand its business analytics offerings, with the goal of providing customers deeper insight into their business information. Netezza appliances enable organizations to run complex data queries, while requiring minimal administration and IT know-how, according to IBM.
Comodo, provider of SSL certificate and internet security solutions, has teamed up with 3-dB Networks, maker of broadband wireless network products. The partnership will allow 3-dB to bring Comodo's live tech support offering to the wireless internet service provider market. Comodo's livePCsupport feature monitors the PC and alerts customers when there is a problem, then offering them access to a live professional for help.
HBGary, provider of advanced threat protection, has hired James Butterworth as vice president of services and Sam Maccherola as VP of worldwide sales. Butterworth previously served as senior director of cybersecurity for Guidance Software, while Maccherola most recently acted as VP and general manager of the public sector for Guidance.
Voltage Security has allied with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to provide information risk protection and compliance management to organizations with complex payment supply chains and/or legacy infrastructure resources. Under the partnership, PwC will offer system integration services for Voltage's data protection portfolio.
