Women in Security: Honorable Mention

Camille Jackson,
information security analyst, Tenable

Camille Jackson is a security analyst at Tenable who has 18 years of IT industry experience under her belt and has long been an advocate of early childhood exposure to STEM opportunities. Jackson worked her way up from tech support to working on a full-scale cybersecurity team and is currently responsible for monitoring network activity for anomalous behavior and investigating potential security compromises. Jackson has also authored blog posts on improving diversity in cybersecurity and was named the Minority Practitioner of the Year by The International Consortium of Minority Cyber Security Professionals (ICMCP) in 2017. She has also served in various positions at the Department of Energy.

Rose Elliott,
senior director, product engineering, Tenable

Rose Elliott is a senior director of product engineering at Tenable who leads a team of 35 people. Her 20 years of experience have been spread across the likes of high-profile companies including PayPal, Netflix and eBay. Elliott believes female representation in STEM occupations is low because a message is sent to girls from an early age that careers in STEM are best suited for men. Elliott is also a strong proponent of female industry meetups and believes that companies should encourage female employees to join groups such as Women in CyberSecurity (WyCyS) or Women in Technology International (WITI).

Cath Goulding,
CISO, Nominet

Cath Goulding is the CISO at Nominet, where she has led initiatives that have directly contributed to her firm’s success, including a program that helps to fight phishing and combat malicious activity to protect U.K. citizens. Goulding started out at working in IT at Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ – the U.K.’s NSA equivalent), specializing in information security with the agency for 15 years and holding a variety of positions that contributed directly to government intelligence. In addition to her current role, Goulding sits on the board of the Women’s Security Society, is a vocal proponent of women in security, is a mentor at CyLon, and is  involved in activities in youth encouragement that collaborate with the NCSC to help bring young talent into cyber roles through bursaries and competitions amongst other campaigns. Goulding has also done outreach work in schools, speaking to girls at GCSE level to encourage them to study computer science and consider a career in the IT sector. 

Margaret Cunningham,
principal research scientist, Forcepoint

Dr. Margaret Cunningham is a principal research scientist for human behavior in Forcepoint’s Innovation Lab. Cunningham has a passion for identifying critical interactions between humans and technology through a socio-technical systems lens, with a goal of establishing a better human-centric model for improving cybersecurity. Cunningham also has experience in the health care domain, particularly in building metrics that illustrate how integrating new technologies can impact patient safety and care provider performance. Previously, she supported technology acquisition and integration, research and development, and operational testing and evaluation for the Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other government clients.

Lakshmi Hanspal,
global chief security officer, Box

Lakshmi Hanspal is the global chief security officer at Box and is responsible for the corporate, physical and cybersecurity of her firm’s footprint, including data protection and privacy. Prior to Box, Hanspal was the CISO for SAP Ariba and has held senior positions at PayPal, Bank of America and other companies. Hanspal’s career spans 23 years in information security, and risk management. Hanspal serves on the advisory boards of several cloud companies, is an active community volunteer as a youth sports coach and is passionate about engaging and promoting women in technical leadership roles.

Ning Wang,
CEO, Offensive Security

Ning Wang was recently named chief executive officer of offensive security and is the former HackerOne chief operating officer (COO), playing a key role in developing the market for ethical hackers, something she plans to continue and accelerate in her new role. Wang also served as the COO/CFO at Lynda.

Linda Hatupopi,
cyber security, IT governance manager, PwC Windhoek

Linda Hatupopi is the cyber Security and IT governance manager at PwC Windhoek, with a strong background in network engineering. Hatupopi has been described as a natural in governance and she – alongside a brand new all-female team of former IT auditors, now cybersecurity junior consultants, started the first cybersecurity team for the PwC branch in Namibia. Although still new on her cyber journey, she has been making real strides to raise Namibia’s security posture, train herself and lead a team of enthusiastic ladies to revolutionize cybersecurity in Southern Africa.

Manju Mude,
senior security leader, Verizon Media

Manju Mude is a senior security leader of Verizon Media with nearly two decades of experience in IT Security. Mude is leading the charge on a massive cybersecurity education initiative internally at Verizon Media called “Paranoids University” and has seen tremendous success in making security an embedded part of Verizon Media’s culture across all employees, beyond just the IT and security folks.

JO ANN BAREFOOT,
CEO, Barefoot Innovation Group; co-founder, Hummingbird Regtech

Jo Ann Barefoot is the chief executive officer at Barefoot Innovation Group, the co-founder at Hummingbird Regtech, and a Senior Fellow Emerita at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government’s Center for Business and Government. She is also an angel investor and adviser to fintech startups, has served on several advisory boards, and has even testified before Congress and federal officials.
