What do you like best about your job?
One word: variety. I’m never doing the same ’ole thing everyday. Everyday is like having a new job.
What annoys you?
Trying to bridge the gap (technical, financial, innovative) between IT and the non-technical executive side of the business.
How do you explain your job to non-security people?
I ask them if they have seen the television shows CSI or Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and tell them that I do the same thing — only with packets of data instead of actual forensic clues.
How do you see your job changing?
I see us becoming more directly involved with the consumer. In the past, we have been behind-the-scenes kind of folks, enterprise platform type of support. Everyday, more and more of what we implement internally, as well as, externally (internet) directly affects the consumer, especially when it comes to things that the consumer is unaware of.

With increased regulatory requirements, companies are starting to re-prioritize business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR).
Develop new programs
There is increased demand for BCDR pros by companies looking to resuscitate outdated plans, develop new programs and make long-term strategic decisions.
Increased compensation
Compensation is increasing with base compensation ranging from $75K to $125K, depending on location and level of experience.
