Skills in demand

Corporations are seeking information security engineers as a “mission critical hire.” Top skills to bring to the table are a strong knowledge of vulnerability and penetration testing.

What it takes

The best way to show this is through a thorough understanding of advanced hacker techniques. A simple Google search of “hacker techniques” can get you started down the path with very little effort. In addition, organizations like the SANS Institute offer classes called “cutting edge hacker techniques.”

Compensation

Compensation for these positions falls in the $60k to $120k+ range (most fall between $60k and $80k).
