Earlier this week, Discover Financial Services filed a report of a data breach with the Office of the Attorney General, State of California Department of Justice, as required by California law.
While the company claimed the incursion did not involve Discover card systems, it is issuing those affected with a new card containing a new account number, security code and expiration date “to reduce the possibility of fraud.”
The company reported that Discover card account information was involved in two separate breaches, which occurred on Feb. 19, 2014 and Aug. 2, 2015, but said it was “difficult to know” what data might have been stolen. Nor did it say how many customer accounts were affected.
Discover advised customers to activate and sign their new card “to help keep your account safe.”
