Autonomous warfare: Call of Duty meets Pokemon Go?

Pentagon Strategic Capabilities Office Director Will Roper envisions the future of autonomous warfare may look like Pokemon Go.

There may soon come a day when soldiers will be able to drop a digital marker on the battlefield that future deployments and other faraway units will be able to see, similar to a Pokemon Go Monster that players sees in the same spot, Roper told Wired.

Other advancements in augmented reality technology could allow military personnel to access a map of their surrounding area in the lower corner of their field of view like in Call of Duty and other first person shooter games.

Roper went on to say some operations could be handled with humans acting as the quarterbacks of autonomous drones swarms that could compensate for each other if one were to be shot down. He said this kind of technology would make low fighter pilots level surveillance which they previously hadn't been able to carry out.
