British World Cup team members may have more to worry about than what happens on the football pitch in host country Russia as the Football Association (FA) is already expressing concerns about hackers going after the team's players and staff.
As a protective measure the FA will provide its own internet access for members at the upcoming World Cup, running from June 14 to July 15, 2018 if its team makes the cut, and has plans to warn its members not to use Wi-Fi access points or hot spots in public places, reported Wired UK. In addition, the players would be given guidelines to follow regarding their social media posts to not only ensure their cybersecurity, but to keep the team's training area secret. The FA has not confirmed the letter was sent, Wired said.
Cyberattacks attributed to Russian-based hacking groups Fancy Bear/APT 28 took place exposed the medical data of several dozen 2016 Olympic athlete stored with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
