Steelbox Networks names former SPI Dynamics leader new CEO; LogLogic taps former SurfControl chief to lead

Vendors LogLogic and Steelbox Networks today announced the appointment of new chief executives -- both former leaders of recently acquired security providers.

LogLogic has named Patricia Sueltz, formerly the leader of SurfControl, as its new chief executive, and Steelbox has appointed Brian Cohen, former SPI Dynamics leader, its president and CEO.

Websense bought SurfControl
in April for $400 million, while HP acquired SPI Dynamics in June for an undisclosed sum.

Cohen has also served as the founder, president and CEO of Technologic, a firewall vendor, from 1992 to 1999, when the company merged with eSoft. Cohen also worked in management positions at Management Matters, an investment and consulting company, and Dun and Bradstreet.

Cohen has also been named a member of Steelbox's board of directors.

Steelbox co-founder Richard “Chip” Howes, the company's president and CEO since 2003, will continue to serve on its board.

“I'm delighted to join the team at Steelbox, which is extremely well-positioned to own a large share of the video market,” Cohen said today in a news release.

HP's purchase of SPI Dynamics, which came on the heels of IBM's buy of Watchfire, helped to validate the application security space, according to analysts.

Before her work at SurfControl, Sueltz was employed as the president of global operations at Salesforce.com and spent five years as vice president of the Sun software systems group at Sun Microsystems.

Sueltz is also a member of the Cyber Security Industry Alliance's 2007 board of directors and has served on the boards of Amgen and Delphi.

“LogLogic is experiencing growth well beyond market rates and is positioned at the center of major technology trends sweeping the industry around compliance, security and the provision of intelligent management information from multiple logs,” Sueltz said today in a news release.
