CA acquires security software maker

Computer Associates has acquired Tiny Software, a developer of firewalls and other endpoint security for Windows desktops and servers.

CA executives said the deal expands its threat management portfolio, which includes antivirus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam products.

Tiny Software's products include the Tiny Personal Firewall and the recently released Tiny Firewall 64 for 64-bit Windows operating systems. Tiny's OEM licensees include Microsoft, Unisys, and the U.S. Air Force.

CA plans to market the Tiny Software products as standalone solutions while it incorporates them into its eTrust Integrated Threat Management software offerings.

Financial details of the all-cash deal for privately held Tiny Software were not disclosed. Founded in 1999, Tiny is based in Santa Clara, Calif.

The deal is the latest consolidation move in the security industry. Earlier this month, SC Magazine reported Data storage supplier Network Appliance agreed to buy storage security firm Decru for $272 million in cash and stock.
