Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.), chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, has withdrawn from a new group that aimed to improve federal IT security, citing concerns about the organization's structure.
Neither Davis or the committee will be involved in the CISO Exchange because it has evolved in a way the Congressman is not comfortable with, said committee spokesperson David Marin. Davis had announced the creation of the CISO Exchange in February, after federal agencies again received poor IT security scores.
The structure of the group, plus the fees charged to industry advisory board members and participants, "raises questions about whether folks are trading on the committee or his [Davis's] name to solicit sponsorship," Marin said.
The controversy started last week, after the CISO Exchange announced its advisory board and outlined its structure. Others involved in the public-private initiative, including the Federal CIO Council, reportedly also are distancing themselves from the CISO Exchange.
