Anthem Healthcare has agreed to settle a string of lawsuits tied to its 2015 data breach which impacted more than 78.8 million individuals.
If approved by the judge who will hear the motion on Aug. 17, the company will pay an unprecedented $115 million, according to a preliminary motion filed by attorneys.
The settlement could result in a payment that far exceeds the settlements tied to other large-scale data breaches which include Target, Home Depot, and Ashley Madison. Additionally, the company is required to provide three additional years worth of security protections for those impacted by the breach.
“We are very satisfied that the settlement is a great result for those affected and look forward to working through the settlement approval process,” Andrew Friedman, a lawyer for the victims, said in a statement.
