Apple iOS 13.1 will fix location privacy bug, lockscreen bypass exploit

A location privacy bug in iOS 13 that apparently doesn’t honor users’ privacy settings in some apps should be fixed in the Tuesday launch of iOS 13.1.

Via video, a Fast Company report showed how iOS 13 changes the privacy setting in Facebook to “Ask Next Time” regardless of how many times “Never” was selected.

“In a rush to meet the iPhone 11 release date, Apple hurried to just get the software out as they announced the 13.1 release that addresses these bugs the same day,” said Terence Jackson, CISO at Thycotic. “The DoD last week encouraged it's users to delay updating until 13.1 was available. This is just another example that not even Apple is immune to buggy software.”

As with other updates, Jackson recommends “waiting a couple of days before installing new software and to read the release notes.”

Apple is also slated to patch a lockscreen bypass exploit in the update, which was moved up to Sept. 24 from its original release date.
