Huntsville, Ala.-based Arxceo, provider of anti-reconnaissance and anomaly-based attack prevention software, has appointed Greg Grant as vice president of sales and channel development and Dave Bryan as director of finance. Grant previously worked at Nokia and Internet Security Systems (ISS), while Bryan also spent time at Nokia.

 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has deployed McAfee solutions to defend against spam, phishing, spyware and virus attacks. The agency will deploy McAfee's Secure Messaging Gateway appliances to protect 120,000 users across the country. The goal is to safeguard critical systems.

 

Imperva has appointed Jonathan Mepsted as the managing director of the data security firm's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) operations.

Mepsted, who previously served as manager of direct and channel sales for EMEA at Fortinet, will oversee expansion into European markets.

 

Check Point Software Technologies has acquired NFR Security, provider of intrusion prevention solutions, for $20 million. The purchase gives Check Point a piece of the threat prevention market after the U.S. federal government impeded a plan by Check Point to acquire Columbia, Md.-based Sourcefire in March.

In November 2006, Check Point acquired Stockholm-based Protect Data, parent company of Pointsec Mobile Technologies, for $585 million.

 

Microsoft has enhanced its security software advisory (SSA) program by offering higher payouts to eligible security channel partners and expanding eligible license deals to include most commercial, government and educational licensing programs. Microsoft now pays advisory fees of up to 30 percent.

The changes come in response to increased demand for Forefront enterprise security products and feedback from the SSA's more than 1,700 partners.

 

Vericept, provider of content control solutions, has announced that leading independent oil and gas exploration company, Anadarko Petroleum, has deployed its Risk Management Platform to protect sensitive data from being leaked and to meet compliance regulations.

 

TriCipher, provider of future-proof, risk-based authentication, has named Vatsal Sonecha as vice president of strategy and business development. Sonecha will be charged with developing partner relationships. He served as VP of market development at McAfee, where he helped forge strategic relationships.

 

Absolute Software has opened an office in Reading, U.K. to expand its international operations. The Vancouver, British Columbia-based firm provides Computrace software. When a computer (either Intel or Mac) equipped with Computrace software is reported stolen, the agent sends a location signal to Absolute's monitoring center. The company recently recovered laptops in the U.K, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Russia, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Israel.

 

Akonix Systems, an instant messenger (IM) security provider, has hired Chris Gardner as director of channels and alliances. Gardner will focus on developing channel and partnership strategies to respond to the growing IM security and management sector. He previously served as vice president of North American sales at Patchlink.
