An anonymous “top state official” briefed on the data breach has indicated that roughly 7.5 million voter records may have been affected by the cyber incident at the Kennesaw State University’s Center for Election Systems, according to The Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The university notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Thursday, who then reached out to the FBI after learning the full scope of the breach.

Federal officials have not commented on the alleged breach, but according to a statement released by the university on Friday it is “working with federal law enforcement officials to determine whether and to what extent a data breach may have occurred involving records maintained by the Center for Election Systems.”
