DeMISTIfying Security: To 2019 and Beyond!

By Ed Moyle and Raef Meeuwisse

Major data breaches and further technological advancements headlined 2018—and basically every other year before that—but what should you be focusing on as we head into the thick of 2019?

Will there be any improvements tied to the cybersecurity talent gap? Will there be more high-profile data breaches? What kind of regulations could the government have in the works? One thing’s for sure, we can surely expect more threats, which lead to more breaches, says security veteran Ed Meeuwisse.

“I still think that the number of cyber attacks and the scale of breaches is going to increase,” Meeuwisse says. “$600 billion was the conservative estimate for cybercrime in 2018…[we can expect] at least $1 trillion at least in 2019.”

They covered what’s occurred in 2018, but now it’s time to look ahead. In this segment of InfoSec Insider’s DeMISTIfying Security, experts Raef and Ed Moyle take out their crystal ball and predict what events security practitioners can look forward to (or not).
