The Federal Trade Commission has charged a network of six corporations and five people with violating the Adult Labeling Rule and CAN-SPAM Act for using spam to sell internet pornography.
According to the FTC, the network inundated consumers with sexually explicit email that did not have the required warning label and violated CAN-SPAM by containing deceptive subject headings, failing to identify itself as an ad, and not providing opt-out mechanisms.
A federal district court issued a temporary restraining order against the defendants, which include four Las Vegas companies: Global Net Solutions, Open Space Enterprises, and Reflected Networks.
