Gaps in anti-spam protection

Nearly one-third of organizations fail to refine or reconfigure their anti-spam tools, according to an online survey conducated by Clearswift and the nonprofit privacy certification firm TRUSTe.

Anti-spam tools need to be refined in order to keep up with the ever-changing nature of spam and without updates are useless, according to Clearswift, a maker of security software.

Sixty-three percent of survey respondents said they don't use web filtering software in conjunction with email filtering. Web filtering helps block HTML spam.

While more than 72 percent of organizations have some anti-spam defense, 55 percent of them believe its inadequate, the survey showed.

The 2004 Clearswift Spam Monitor survey is based on input from 1,260 management professionals.
