Hacker breaches San Diego hospital patient records

A San Diego medical center is warning patients that a hacker may have accessed their personal information.


How many victims? 30,000.

What type of personal information? Names, birth dates and diagnosis and treatment dates.

What happened? A hacker breached computers of the University of California, San Diego's Moores Cancer Center and gained access to patients’ personal information.

Details: Most patient information did not include Social Security numbers and there is no evidence that any of the information was been viewed, Spokeswoman DeAnn Marshall told the Associated Press. In addition, medical records are stored on separate servers and were not breached.

What was the response? Letters were sent to affected individuals and authorities are investigating.
