Healthcare Industry to Bolster Security Budgets, Study Says

By Marcos Colon

HospitalThe report by security firm Thales e-Security, indicates that spending on IT security is expected to increase.

Of the 1,100 senior security executives surveyed around the world in the “2017 Thales Data Threat Report,” 73 percent indicated that they plan to increase security spending this year. Of that industry average, 81 percent of U.S. healthcare companies shared that they were planning to bolster their security budgets, an uptick from the 60 percent of firms that planned to increase spending in 2016.

The increasing spending intent is likely tied to both the high-profile data breaches that have taken place, in addition to the skyrocketing number of ransomware threats that impacted businesses last year.
