What types of personal information? Names, addresses, student ID numbers and Social Security numbers were sent via email to other students.
Details: An email from the university’s Office of Student Financial Services, informing 623 students that they might be eligible for additional financial aid, inadvertently contained a file containing the personal information.
What was the response? The university notified students by email, U.S. mail and phone call.
The university has contracted with a fraud- and credit-monitoring service for the next 12 months.
Students will receive emailed alerts on changes to credit reports and $10,000 insurance against identity theft.
Fraud restitution representatives will be made available to students in the case of identity theft.
