Social Security numbers of Dixie State College employees and alumni accessible on website for 14 months

The personal information of 11,000 former Dixie State College employees and alumni were accessible from a college website.

What types of personal information?
Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses of people who worked at the college or graduated between 1986 and 2005.

What was the response? The college said employees and alumni should monitor their bank and credit card statements.

The college has launched a website and toll-free phone number to aid victims.

Details: The college was notified that the information was accessible when an anonymous phone call was made to the webmaster on Sept. 11.

The files were said to be available for 14 months.

Quote: "We regret that this incident has occurred and we want to let everyone in the Dixie State College community know that we take this matter and all security issues very seriously,” said college President Lee Caldwell.
