Spyware still ignored by organizations, says survey

A survey of US businesses shows that spyware has still not been recognized as a serious threat.

The poll of 275 managers found that. although many people see spyware as a nuisance, few have deployed tools to prevent it.

According to the survey, more than 70 percent of corporations expressed an increased concern with spyware, but less than 10 percent  had implemented anti-spyware software.

Nearly all (96 percent) thought traditional anti-virus and firewall solutions would give the protectino they needed, yet nearly 82 percent reported their desktops were infected with spyware, with more than a third noticing an increase in spyware infections in the last six months.

"Corporations are risking lost productivity and intellectual property to this rapidly growing threat by not deploying a comprehensive, enterprise-strength anti-spyware solution," said Richard Stiennon, vice president of threat research at Webroot, which sponsored the research.
