Study Finds Security Professionals Are Placing More Pressure on Themselves

By Marcos Colon

Information security professionals will always feel a sense of pressure coming from upstream management and the board, but they’re also beginning to take security more personally.

An annual study by security firm Trustwave, “2017 Security Pressures Report,” highlights the increasing pressure that security practitioners are placing on themselves. After surveying 1,600 information security professionals around the world, the study found that 65 percent of respondents believe they’re feeling the most pressure form the C-suite, a decrease from last year’s 80 percent.

When it came to respondents agreeing that the source of pressure is themselves, the number of people doubled this year, from 11 percent to 24 percent.

Even if a security professional’s organization doesn’t experience a data breach, pressure mounts as they fear they could be next, or know they must implement additional safeguards, the study says.
