Trojan email disguised as Microsoft mail

A Trojan worm contained in an email appearing to be from Microsoft is circulating the internet.

A Trojan worm contained in an email appearing to be from Microsoft is circulating the internet.

The worm, known as Xombe, is hidden in an email that poses as an update for Windows XP. When opened, the worm downloads a backdoor component leaving the machine wide open for hackers.

and has the subject line "Windows XP Service Pack 1 (Express) - Critical Update", and contains an attachment called winxp_sp1.exe.

Xombe is also known as Trojan.Xombe, Downloader-GJ and Troj/Dloader-L and affects Windows 2000, NT, XP and Server 2003.
