Trump tweeted about hacked emails after WikiLeaks sent request his son

Donald Trump, Jr. and WikiLeaks were in touch privately via Twitter during and after the presidential campaign, but while the communications were mostly one-sided, in at last one case, the senior Donald Trump seemed to respond within 15 minutes to a request transmitted to his son from the transparency site to reference Its disclosure of Hillary Clinton Campaign Manager John Podesta's hacked emails.

"Strongly suggest your dad tweets this link if he mentions us,” WikiLeaks said in a Twitter direct message to the younger Trump on Oct. 12, 2016, according to a report in The Atlantic. “There's many great stories the press are missing and we're sure some of your follows will find it. Btw we just released Podesta Emails Part 4.”

Although his son did not respond, about 15 minutes later, then-candidate Trump tweeted, “Very little pickup by the dishonest media by incredible information provided by Wikileaks.”

The correspondence was part of a series of communications between the President's son and Wikileaks that that Trump, Jr., handed over to congressional investigators probing possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia operatives. During the campaign, WikiLeaks released a steady stream of emails pilfered from Podesta and others affiliated with the Democratic Party in what was widely believed to be an attempt to derail Clinton's campaign.
