The executive order on cyber attacks introduced by former U.S. President Barak Obama has been extended by current President Donald Trump.
Introduced on April 1, 2015, Executive Order 13694 allows the government to issue sanctions against individuals and organizations engaged in cyber attacks against the U.S.
“These significant malicious cyber-enabled activities continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” President Trump wrote in a notice tied to the executive order. “Therefore…I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13694.”
The order enables the U.S. government to sanction cyber criminals who may pose a threat to critical infrastructure via a multitude of large-scale hacking events which include distributed denial-of-service attacks.
